Putting Wisdom to practical use:

If you have reviewed the possible metanarratives and have decided which narrative seems most inclusive to you and satisfies the subjectively important values you hold, then you are ready to begin passing on your wisdom. Traditionally, since Moses, it is important to avoid confusing those that are not interested.  Kant argues that the more that seek enlightenment the better the community. Certainly the wise must know who should be encouraged to go on the quest and who are perhaps better off left living the unexamined life. Despite Socrates position that the unexamined life is not worth living, it seems many people are much happier leading an unexamined life.

But how do you know who would be better off? Besides the moral obligation to pass on the truth for the benefit of others, wisdom is like love and grows the more it is shared. Even the Buddha felt called to stay and teach after enlightenment. Jesus said to his disciples that they should teach all nations.

As Americans we may also recognize the nature of our political processes requires as intelligent an electorate as possible. Especially at the local level, individuals can have a great deal to do with the way political decisions are made.

Let’s go back to our cognitive map to see what direction may look best.
